On April 25th, the day Cruijff would have turned 70, Ajax confirmed there is a declaration of intent to rename the Amsterdam ArenA to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. All parties involved have agreed on this tribute to the legendary Dutch football player, but it may take at least six months for the change to be official. 

The European Stadium & Safety Management Association will assemble during the Smart Stadium Workshop, organized in cooperation with BASIS (British Association for Sustainable Sport). The event will take place in London (UK) from 7 to 8 June 2017, both in Emirates and Twickenham Stadium

Legia Warszawa, a long standing ESSMA member, communicated that majority owner Dariusz Mioduski has completed the buyout of the minority shareholders, giving him 100 percent ownership of the club. 

The European Club Association (ECA) conducted a survey focused on Fan Entertainment in partnership with ESSMA, The European Stadium and Safety Management Association. 

From 8 to 9 March, an ESSMA delegation traveled to Dublin for the first preparatory steps of the organization of the 4th ESSMA Summit. This included meetings with the stakeholders of Aviva Stadium, Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) and the Dublin Convention Bureau. 

ESSMA developed a report on the impact of UEFA EURO 2016 on French stadium development. This report combines learnings and outcomes from different sources: 1) Rapport Grand Stades EURO 2016 2) ex-ante assessment of the economic impact of EURO 2016 and the economic and social impact of EURO 2016 by Centre de Droits et d’Economie du Sport (CDES) 3) Stadium Development panel discussion from the ESSMA Summit 2017 in Lyon, France.
