On February 28 Mr. Emilio Sabadell -Operations Director of FC Barcelona and ESSMA Board Member- talked about his ticketing strategy during the Universitat Pompeu Fabra Ticketing Seminar for experts and students in Spain. Below you will find a brief summary of his insights.

On Wednesday February 12 the ESSMA Staff visited the BayArena in Leverkusen to have a talk with Stephan Rehm, who is part of the ESSMA Stadium Management Expert Group. This first part of the coverage showcases the responsibilities as a BayArena stadium manager.

Sander van Stiphout is director at Amsterdam ArenA International, the entity in which Amsterdam ArenA concentrates her consultancy services and operations. Sander specializes in managerial advice for the conception, development, operation, and management of stadiums and arenas as well as advice on safety and security issues in relation to large venues. Sander is also an active member of ESSMA. We interviewed him regarding the nomination of Amsterdam ArenA as 'Stadium Operations Consultants' for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ in Qatar.

In cooperation with Ghelamco and KAA Ghent, Philips is the first to lighten a stadium in Belgium with 500.000 LEDs. These LEDs will illuminate the stadium's frontage in a dynamic way and consequently put the city of Ghent on the map.

The last few months Maracaná has been in the centre of interest of the football industry. Today this mythic sports venue is proudly standing up again. Daniel Fernandes and his team are the creators of this contemporary piece of art, having spent a lot of devotion to achieve the finalisation of this project.

Mr. Martin Murphy has been always linked to his beloved Aviva Stadium at Lansdowne Road in Dublin.  From 1995 to October 2007 he was the Director of Cooperate Affairs and Operations for the Irish Rugby Football Union.  In 2007 he was named Stadium Director of the Lansdowne Road Stadium or what today is well known as the AVIVA Stadium.

Sports Grounds Safety Authority

The Sports Grounds Safety Authority is a government body that began as the Football Licensing Authority and has played a critical role in transforming spectator safety at football grounds in the UK. The SGSA carries out a range of regulatory functions in relation to football in England and Wales, and advisory functions in relation to other sports within the UK and internationally.  It operates a licensing scheme to regulate the spectator viewing accommodation at Premier and Football League Grounds, Wembley and the Millennium Stadium and oversees the issue and monitoring of Safety Certificates by local authorities.

The SGSA aims to create the conditions for safe and enjoyable experiences for spectators at all sports grounds in England and Wales and around the world.  It provides trusted independent advice and guidance, and uses its experience and commitment to drive continuous improvement. The SGSA works with its partners to educate and inform, and champions innovation in safety management.
