How Eintracht Frankfurt implements digitalisation at Deutsche Bank Park

During our seventh ESSMA Connect session Timm Jäger - CEO at EintrachtTech - joined us to talk all about Eintracht Frankfurt’s “Arena of IoT” project. Through this digitalisation project, Eintracht Frankfurt wants to develop new business models to create an arena that stands out from other venues in Europe.

The introduction of Eintracht Frankfurt’s own technology company

In 2019 Eintracht Frankfurt founded EintrachtTech, a 100% owned subsidiary, with the aim to develop new digital business models and establish new revenue streams that increase the overall economical competitiveness of the German football club. EintrachtTech has 4 core business areas they focus on: digital stadium, digital ecosystem, eSports and startup cooperations.

“Our state of the art technology lays the foundation for new digital business models in and around the stadium.”

A digital transformation through the “Arena of IoT” project

Together with its technology partners, EintrachtTech implemented its “internet of things” project at Deutsche Bank Park, focusing on topics like parking space management, smart waste management, predictive maintenance and much more.

Through this project, Eintracht Frankfurt wants to create a digital lighthouse in the heart of Europe. They also want to play an active role as a motor for digitalisation in the region as well as develop IoT solutions that can also be implemented in other stadiums or venues like airports, train stations and shopping malls.

A new cashless payment system

In collaboration with Deutsche Bank and Mastercard, the club launched its own payment app which introduced a new cashless digital payment system. The fans can link any bank account to the app, which allows them to pay cashless inside the stadium as well as anywhere around the world via the NFC technology. Eintracht Frankfurt believes this technology brings a lot of opportunities, such as:

  • Increasing transaction volumes within the stadium

  • Creating additional benefits for users by creating a loyalty system

  • Generating more data and insights into fan behaviour and consumption patterns
