Industry update: more on construction, the return of fans and 5G

Safety & Security

• During EURO 2020, 9 of the 12 host cities have confirmed they will open up their stadiums to fans. St. Petersburg, Baku, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Copenhagen, Glasgow, London and Rome will allow a limited number of fans into the stadium up to 25% of the stadium capacity, while Budapest aims to welcome spectators at full capacity.
• In order to improve safety at their stadium, Johan Cruijff ArenA announced their collaboration with ESSMA Corporate Partner Safesight. By using the Safesight software, the ArenA is able to easily log, interpret and share all relevant matters that can influence the quality or continuity of their events or organisation.

Development & Construction

• In Spain, the renovation of El Sadar has been completed, increasing its capacity to 25,000. On the outside of CA Osasuna’s redeveloped stadium, a new facade lights up the stadium in the club’s red colour.
• Croatian football club Dinamo Zagreb has announced its plans to build a 34,000-seat stadium. Their old stadium, Maksimir Stadium that was opened for the first time in 1912, will be demolished to make way for the new stadium.
• Serie A club Parma Calcio revealed their vision for the redevelopment of their current stadium called Stadio Tardini. The club wants the new stadium to be innovative, environmentally sustainable and multifunctional, aiming to be open for the community throughout the week.

Fan Experience & Hospitality

• Fans at SL Benfica's Estádio da Luz can now enjoy a 5G network. This new technological development makes mobile internet access on average 10 times faster than normal and brings numerous possibilities in terms of fan experience, internal and external communication, real-time statistics and much more. 
• A new open-air event space has been unveiled at London Stadium. The North Scoreboard Deck, as the new event space is called, can hold up to 1,000 visitors.
