Amsterdam ArenA to be renamed Johan Cruijff ArenA

On April 25th, the day Cruijff would have turned 70, Ajax confirmed there is a declaration of intent to rename the Amsterdam ArenA to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. All parties involved have agreed on this tribute to the legendary Dutch football player, but it may take at least six months for the change to be official. 

The board of the Amsterdam ArenA, the board of AFC Ajax NV and the mayor and aldermen Sports Participation of the Amsterdam municipality have agreed in a letter of intent to change the name of the Amsterdam ArenA to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Within six months the agreement in a final contract is to be submitted to the council, the management and supervisory boards of the Stadium and Ajax Amsterdam.

Further to the stadium name change, the mayor and the alderman have also decided to name a street, square, bridge or other feature of the city of Amsterdam after Cruyff.
