ESSMA welcomes 3 new members to its executive committee: Arnaud Delpech (Paris Saint-Germain), Jon Babs (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium) and Frédéric Veraghaenne (Royal Belgian Football Association). We are happy to introduce them to you with a short interview in the coming weeks. The third new ExCo-member is Jon Babbs, he is the Stadium Manager of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club since 2002. With a rich career in the stadium world, Mr Babbs has gained a lot of valuable information and knowledge. Among other things, he supervised the entire process of the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Name: Jon Babbs
Position: Stadium Manager
Club: Tottenham Hotspur Football Club
Number of years working in club: since 2002

  1. How long have you been a member of ESSMA?
    Since its inception
  2. What added value do you think ESSMA brings to the stadium industry?
Think it provides a great opportunity for stadium operators to benchmark their services, discuss concerns, share ideas and develop the industry as a whole. If used correctly it could help shape the future of venue management by giving everyone a voice and an opportunity to learn from experienced and ambitious business leaders and influencers.
  3. What do you think is the biggest challenge for the future in the stadium industry and how do you think ESSMA should address it?
Stadium operations is always seen as a drain on resources and it is necessary not only to have an ambition to provide the best service possible within individual financial constraints but also to become more efficient whilst competing to lead service polls and maintaining a constant level of safety within ever changing legislation. The sharing of experiences and industry ambitions can only help achieve these goals.
  4. Important note for our readers?
We should always be looking to develop future industry leaders. They are the future of our business and we should not be held back in progressing careers to preserve our own. Even the cynics amongst us have an opportunity to learn, grow, mentor and coach.

'We are very happy to welcome these committed people. Their experience and knowledge will undoubtedly strengthen the functioning of our organisation with an even better service for our members,' said Ludwig Sneyers, managing director of ESSMA.
