In 2018, Romanian football club Steaua Bucharest released designs for a total reconstruction of its legendary Ghencea stadium in preparation of Bucharest’s hosting of part of the EURO 2020 tournament. With a focus on multifunctionality and community use, it is obvious that the stadium’s legacy was kept in mind in the design process.
The implementation of safety and hygienic measures is top of mind for stadium management all over Europe, as now they are welcoming thousands of fans back in the stands.
More and more proposed stadium projects, whether they are redevelopments or new constructions, are including an urban redevelopment of the surrounding area in their plans. They often promise to be a catalyst for urban regeneration and include retail spaces, community facilities, offices and excellent access to public transport.

Everton FC’s project will deliver a state-of-the-art 52,888-capacity stadium for the club and will see the redevelopment of Everton FC’s current Goodison Park site. When both projects are combined, they could deliver a £1 billion boost to the regional economy.
