ESSMA Corporate Partner SGL organised a showcase on 3 July at Brøndby Stadium. The event focused on economical grass management, with grow lighting systems in particular. In total, around 30 pitch professionals gathered to discuss and exchange information linked to pitch management. During the showcase both SGL and users of their grow lighting systems shared insights on the possibilities and opportunities for growing a high-quality pitch at the lowest possible costs.

Brøndby IF

Chris Hague - Groundsman at Brøndby IF - shared the club’s process since 2015 on how they optimised their pitches with a limited budget and the use of the SGL Select lighting units, which are refurbished SGL grow lighting systems. In addition, Chris focused on the WALT principle: water, air, light and temperature. All four elements are critical aspects in growing a perfect pitch.

Following his presentation, delegates had the opportunity to visit the stadium pitch as well as the training pitches and learn more about the equipment the grounds team uses on a daily basis.

Economical Grass Management

Furthermore, Frank van Beusekom - Director of Sales at SGL - focused on SGL’s insights on economical pitch management and provided an overview in terms of:

  • Investment
  • Running costs
  • Maintenance
  • Return on investment

In addition, Danny Huffman – Head Groundsman at AJ Bell Stadium – provided participants insights on their daily operations and how they address the challenge of a full pitch schedule with lots of training sessions, matches and other events. With the support of several SGL grow lighting systems, the pitch is able to recover faster and therefore ensuring a qualitative pitch.

Moreover, Helgi Kolvidsson - Manager of Liechtenstein National Football Team – gave a brief presentation on the need of a good pitch from the players and staff perspective.
