ESSMA’s Stadium Development Report Issue 2 2018 is out

The second issue of the 2018 Stadium Development Reports provides a breakdown of the 2026 bid process and the bid books of both Morocco and the "United joint" bid of USA - Mexico - Canada. In addition, there are insights and updates on the stadium and training facilities projects of Aberdeen FC, Feyenoord, FC Metz, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Stade Raymond-Kopa and Legia Warsaw.

World Cup 2026

The United 2026 bid (USA - Canada - Mexico) is innovative as it will be the first time three nations will co-host the World Cup. The strength of the bid could be found in the already existing stadium infrastructure found in North America, with over 125 existing FIFA compatible stadiums. Breakdown of matches per host country:

  • Canada: 10 matches
  • Mexico: 10 matches
  • United States: 60 matches

Stadium development/renovation projects

  • Aberdeen FC will develop a new 20,000 seat stadium, the project includes a community sports hub, training facilities, etc.

 

  • Borussia Mönchengladbach entered the last phase of their 7 storey-high building next to Borussia Park Stadium with a hotel, conference rooms, museum, fan shop, ‘Medical Park’ rehabilitation and more.

 

  • SCO Angers renovated the Tribune Colombier of their Stade Raymond-Kopa and increased the stand’s capacity to 4,400.



Training centre projects

  • Feyenoord’s new training complex, 1908, consists of several pitches and facilities such as a sports medical centre and research departments, an auditorium, offices, a restaurant, wellness facilities, etc.

 

  • FC Metz plan to construct a 31ha training centre on the old Airbase 128. The first phase of the project will focus on the training facilities of the first team.
