Leicester City FC revealed their plan for a new and state-of-the-art training facility, as part of its long-term commitment to strengthening Leicestershire's status as a home for the development of world-class sport.

The EPFL, an ESSMA Strategic Partner, is pleased to present to the football family, media and fans the second edition of its Fan Attendance Report.

 

This study is aimed to give a complete overview of the fan attendance figures of all domestic championships run by the European Professional Football Leagues. It contains a deep analysis of the results of their Member Leagues and Associate Members when it comes to stadium capacity and relevant stadium utilization as well as the evolution of fan attendance during the period of seven years, from 2010/2011 football season till the last full completed season 2016/2017.

Crystal Palace FC have plans to upgrade their current Selhurst Park. The plans include a new five-storey stand, resulting in a stadium capacity increase from 26,000 to more than 34,000 seats. The redevelopment plans are designed by stadium architects KSS and construction costs are expected to be between €85 and 115 million.

ESSMA will take part in the Moscow Stadium Forum, held on 6 and 7 December. During the two-day event, around 500 participants will learn more the construction and upkeep of sports facilities.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has unveiled the design of Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, the seventh 2022 FIFA World Cup stadium design to be released. The stadium will have a 40,000 capacity and is due for completion in 2020.

For the third year in a row, FC Barcelona organised the Sports Technology Symposium at the famous Camp Nou stadium. With a clear vision on leadership, the club embraced technology and innovation as never before. As such, the event became part of the Barca Innovation Hub, the club's platform to facilitate networking and cooperation in various domains. The goal is clear: be the best in the world. About 500 people from across the globe were brought together during this 2-day event. A mix of topics were presented by speakers with different backgrounds in soccer, basketball, baseball, Formula 1 and other sports and technological domains.

On October 22, VTB Arena Park, home of FC Dynamo Moscow, officially announced the completion of the first construction phase; the new football pitch and tribunes of the reconstructed “Dynamo” stadium. The stadium is planned to be fully operational in April 2018 while the first match is scheduled for 5 June 2018.

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are gaining a foothold in the sports industry. Especially in terms of fan experience it is an interesting opportunity for clubs to explore. Several clubs including Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City FC have launched VR apps earlier, Juventus FC and FC Bayern Munich are following the trend. With VR and AR apps, clubs create opportunities for global fans to feel more connected to the club with for example a VR tour in the stadium or during matches.
