During ESSMA’s Safety and Security Workshop in Copenhagen, Francesco Gianello, Head of Allianz Stadium, shared the security and stewarding approach of Juventus.

ESSMA interviewed Teresa Santos, Quality & Environment Manager at FC Porto about sustainability at Estádio do Dragão. Together with her colleagues, they monitor the energy and water consumption as well as control legislation on a daily basis. Furthermore, they plan and monitor actions and provide continuous training in social responsibility and environment areas in order to change the club’s behaviour and act responsibly.

ESSMA interviewed Bas Schnater, Fan Engagement & CRM Coordinator at AZ Alkmaar, about CRM, fan engagement and data gathering.

During ESSMA’s Safety and Security Workshop in Copenhagen, Joris De Lange - Matchday Operations & Security Manager - talked about the challenges AFC Ajax has faced in terms of attracting, training and retaining stewards and how they dealt with it by creating their own in-house stewarding company, called Stewarding Triple A.

On 13 and 14 November 2018, ESSMA organised its 3rd Safety & Security Workshop. After two successful editions at Stuttgart and Dortmund, this edition of the Safety & Security workshop took place in Copenhagen at FC København’s Telia Parken and at Brøndby IF’s Brøndby Stadium, where over 55 ESSMA Members got the chance to network and get new insights during presentations given by experts in their field.

Ken Scott, Head of Inspectorate at SGSA, presented the recently launched 6th edition of the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds, more commonly known as the Green Guide, during the ESSMA Safety & Security Workshop at Telia Parken. The Green Guide helps sports grounds owners and operators calculate a safe capacity for their venue. It is used around the world by architects and designers as a best practice guide for the development and refurbishment of stadiums.

This year’s Safety & Security Workshop was organised at Telia Parken and Brøndby Stadium. Over 55 members from 14 countries learned insights and shared knowledge related to crowd management, stewarding, pyrotechnics and new technologies.

Mandy Lane (Director at Live Tourism) and Jonathan Waite (Supporter Liaison Officer at Tottenham Hotspur FC) presented the Visit Football stadium assessment programme during our Fan Experience Workshop.

Together with representatives from the Premier League Clubs, Live Tourism developed the Premier League VisitFootball Stadium Assessment Programme, which had the objective of assessing and improving all stadiums in the Premier League in terms of Fan Experience. VisitFootball has a small team of dedicated employees who visit the Premier League stadiums on a regular basis and give them a score (and in a later phase recommendations) based on the fan experience in their stadium.

It is with great pleasure that ESSMA can announce the addition of a new Advisory Committee member: Francesco Gianello (Head of Stadium & Facilities at Juventus). We are confident that ESSMA will benefit from his experience and we look forward working together.
